Abstract

Oral hygiene in children is still considered an epidemic concern in today's society. Early prevention can reduce the morbidity of oral hygiene problems such as dental caries which most often occurs in children. In particular, anapproach to health promotion through various media is needed to overcome this problem. One of which is suitable to be given to children is the media of fairy tales. It is in accordance with the characteristics of imaginative children. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of fairy tale book media on the oral hygiene knowledge of school-age children. The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The results of this study indicate that the media of fairy tales has an effect on increasing knowledge of oral hygiene in school-age children. Abstract

Cases of COVID-19 in children have accurred in various countries, including Indonesia. An effort taken to prevent the transmission of the virus is is to apply the 5M health protocol. However, the implementation of health protocol is still lacking in children. So we need an approach to health education using several methods, one of which is storytelling. This study aims to determine the effect of storytelling an an educational medium on the 5M health protocol in elementary school-age children. This was a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group research design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach on 31 respondents of elementary school children in grade 1 at SDN 07 Mendelem. Data collection used a health protocol compliance questionnaire instrument and storytelling media in the form of flipcharts. This study also used statistical tests in data analysis. The results of this study were the majority of respondents were male, aged 7-8 years. Compliance before the treatment was classified into the category of moderately obedient, and after the treatment was classified into the category of obedient. The results of the bivariate comparison test between the storytelling method and compliance with the 5M health protocol showed (a p-value 0f 0,000˂0,05). It can be concluded that storytelling as an educational medium affects compliance with the 5M health protocol in elementary school-aged children.
